OCT. 30 BARBERTON 40, BUCHTEL 6
Akron Beacon Journal prediction: Maybe hard but Magics will regroup. Pick Magics Beacon record 7-1

Everyone was curious about how the Magics would react after such a tough previous week. That question was answered pretty quick as they ran all over the Griffins, jumping out to 20-0 halftime lead. Magic runners, Mike Gomez, John Vargo, and Paul Okolish were too much for the Buchtel defense. In their biggest scoring output of the year, Barberton scored four times on the ground with touchdown runs by Gomez, Okolish, Terry Brown, and Tom Cheatham.

Magic quarterbacks also had a nice game as Chuck Barna hit Russ Shreiner with a 14-yard TD pass and sophomore Archie Strimmel hit Joe Suboticki with another. John Vargo booted 2 extra points and Ray Karl scored on a two-point conversion. Buchtel was no pushover, having lost only one game coming into the Magic game, but once again the Magic D was outstanding and with the offensive explosion the Griffins were overwhelmed. There was only one game left in the season, a game with always tough Canton Lincoln next week!

PLAYER MEMORIES
Terry Brown: “The Beacon Journal, though predicting a Barberton win, still felt the game was a toss-up. They felt Buchtel quarterback Terry Link would be the best we faced all year and would give our defense problems. We were still grieving, but those articles fired us up, we just overpowered them. The offense was outstanding, and the defense kept Link in check. Buchtel assistant coach Jim Townsend was once a Barberton assistant, and knew our offense and defense tendencies, I guess not well enough!”
