Man stabs himself in neck outside Barberton residence, hospitalized

BARBERTON  A man was taken to a hospital Aug. 15 after allegedly stabbing himself in the neck after an East Side altercation.

Police did not release details on the man or another reported victim treated and released at the scene by paramedics.

Shortly before 5 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence near the intersection of Third Street NE and E Paige Avenue for a report of a disturbance involving a knife. When they arrived, one man was standing in a yard holding a knife to his neck. Police say they pleaded with the man and tried to calm him and get him to put down the knife. Instead, they say, he stabbed himself in the neck and went to the ground.

Police and paramedics immediately began treating him and he was taken to a hospital. His condition was unknown at the time of the release.

EMS treated another injured man at the scene and released him.

Police had no further information to offer and an investigation was ongoing.
