Eleanor Rose Andris, 85

Eleanor Rose Andris passed away peacefully on Christmas Day.

She was born on September 6, 1938 in Woodsfield, Ohio. She moved to Barberton from Antioch with her family when she was in 8th grade.  She graduated from Barberton High School in 1956.

She was an amazing cook and baker. She loved family gatherings and always made sure there was plenty of delicious food for everyone.   For many years, she had a tradition of delivering plates of Christmas cookies on Christmas Eve after church.

Family was everything to Eleanor. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life.  She loved taking her grandchildren shopping for their Christmas and birthday presents.  These shopping trips also included going to lunch. For many years she had the whole family spend the night on New Year’s eve. We would stay up very late playing games, talking, laughing and eating. Then she would be the first one up on New Year’s day making breakfast for everyone.

She was a huge fan of Ohio State, the Cleveland Indians and the Pittsburgh Steelers. She loved playing bingo and going to play the slot machines at the casino.

She worked for many years at the bakery at Giant Eagle in Barberton. Even after she retired, she loved going to the store to visit former coworkers.  One coworker said “ she was a gentle soul but spoke her mind when needed.”

She was a member of  St. Paul’s United Methodist Church from the time she was in junior high until it closed in 2012. She taught Sunday School and volunteered at VBS.  She was also very active in PTA at Hazelwood.

She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph, her parents Wylie and Nettie Hill, brother, Howard Hill, sister Toni Gray and brothers-in-law Dick Rennie, Lester Gray and Joe Andris.

She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Frank, children, Pam (Ron) Jacobs, Frank, and Helen (John) Thomas, daughter-in-law Nicole Andris, grandchildren Jennifer (Tim) Sullivan, Julie (Adam) Smith, Michelle Jacobs, Jeffrey Thomas, Nicole (Joshua) Richardson and Emily Jacobs, great grandchildren Timothy, Isaac and John Sullivan, Sarah and Anna Smith and Judah Richardson, sister Leona Rennie, sister-in-law Cathy Andris, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Gene and Mary Ann Pusen, special cousin Max (Linda) Colvin and many special nieces and nephews.
