Fire heavily damages three New Franklin mobile homes

Fire broke out about 4 p.m. May 31 following a “loud boom” in the first block of E Randy Street in New Franklin. A neighbor who is a veteran made it out and was taken to a hospital, according to a resident, and some pets belonging to the man and neighbor died in the fire. Both mobile homes on each side were damaged by the fire. “Thankfully nobody was killed from it,” the resident wrote in an email to The BGNN. “All thanks to the New Franklin, Coventry, Clinton and Barberton fire departments for risking their lives by preventing it from getting any worse and making sure that everyone was out safe.”

NEW FRANKLIN  Fire sent one man to Akron Children’s Hospital Burn Unit, and two bystanders were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries May 31.

The New Franklin Fire Department was dispatched at 4:27 p.m. May 31 for a report of a house fire on E Randy Street within the Rex Hill Mobile Home Park in New Franklin, according to a June 3 news release from the New Franklin Fire Department.

New Franklin fire units arrived within five minutes and found a mobile home heavily involved in fire that had extended to the two adjacent mobile homes. Firefighters quickly extended hose lines to protect the adjacent homes, which both received heavy damage.

The male occupant who was home at the time of the fire, was treated and transported to Akron Children’s Hospital Burn Unit, the news release states. In addition to the occupant, two additional bystanders were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries. A neighbor said some pets of the man and neighbor perished in the fire.

Simultaneously dispatched with New Franklin was Clinton, Coventry, and Green Fire Department’s. Barberton, Canal Fulton and Norton firefighters also assisted New Franklin firefighters on the scene and Chippewa assisted with a patient transport, the news release states. New Franklin Fire Investigators were on scene and are still investigating. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
