OCT. 16 BARBERTON 22, CUYAHOGA FALLS 0
Akron Beacon Journal Prediction: Cuyahoga Falls has won six of the last eight versus the Magics, not this time, Barberton wins. Beacon Record 6-0.
How could the Magics possibly be up for the Falls after the previous week’s win over Garfield? This would be a stern test, while they were favored, it was hoped they wouldn’t be looking forward to the always tough Alliance Aviators the next week.
In the first period the Magics jumped out to an 8-0 lead after John Vargo went over for the score from the one and Ken Sennett ran in for the extra points. The highlight was a 28-yard halfback pass from Tom Cheatham to Joe Suboticki. It was the first pass Cheatham had ever thrown in a game.
Late in the second quarter Ron Vargo capped a long drive with a 3-yard run and Sennett hit Suboticki with a pass for the extra points and the Magics went to the locker room with a 16-0 halftime lead.
In the fourth quarter, after a long Sennett run, Paul Okolish scored from the one. Once again it was the defense that shined as the Falls never really even threatened to score. It was game six and the Magic D had only given up three TD’s all year.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Falls pretty much sealed their own fate when they came onto the field with purple tape on their helmets saying Beat the Magics. Probably not a wise decision to come to Magic Stadium and anger the Magics before the game even starts.
PLAYER MEMORIES
Terry Brown: “We simply overwhelmed the Falls both offensively and defensively. This would end up being Kenny’s last game, we never lost with Kenny as our starting quarterback.”
