Garry Lee Campbell, 90

Garry Lee Campbell

Garry passed on June 12, 2025, the last of his generation, after an extended illness, which he
fought actively, the same way he lived his life.
He was born December 21, 1934, in Barberton, Ohio. Garry was a member of Hope Lutheran
Church and a previous member of St. Matthews Lutheran Altar Guild in Norton.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Marie (Bobbie); and by two of his
sons: Michael and Mark Campbell; his parents: Colin and Delilah; and brothers: Gene, Glenn
and Garth.
He is survived by his loving companion, Ruth Pleskach; his youngest son, Jeff (Karen) of Stow;
Mark’s wife, Eun Mi of Denver, Colorado; his granddaughters: Tiffany of Vail, Colorado, Heidi
(Jim) of Adel, Iowa and Riley of Stow, Ohio; his grandson, Branden (Izzy) of West Salem, Ohio;
and many great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He led a very full and active life. In high school, he was the senior year football MVP. He was
recruited and accepted by Woody Hayes’ OSU football program. However, he decided to
dedicate his life to his new love, Bobbie.
He is a proud Marine (retired) and retired from both PPG in Barberton and Coors Brewery in
Colorado, a scout master of many years with Troop 110 with many Eagles during his tenure, a
devious euchre player, a long-time member of the Tuesday breakfast club with his buddies (the
last surviving member Pete Schanz) at Sister’s Century House in Canal Fulton, a meticulous
wood worker, heavily involved with Camp Quality, a proud member of the Barberton Jaycees,
and an avid outdoorsman who has traveled the world.
Garry loved all of his family. He had a heart of gold and wanted to take care of everyone. His
family sends a huge thank you to the Barberton Hospital Hospice Team physicians and nurses.
We also send an extra-special thank you to his Summa Hospice nurse, Toni, who graciously
cared for him over his last months with a genuine kindness and compassion.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Hope Lutheran Church,
999 Portage Lakes Drive, Akron, Ohio, with Pastor Jack Kozak officiating. Calling hours will be an
hour prior to the service. Family will receive friends with a luncheon following the service.
There will be no graveside service. Memorials may be made to Hope Lutheran Church.
