Marianne Hornyak, 94

Marianne Hornyak entered eternal life on September 1, 2025.
Born Marianna (Mary Anna) Demchak on August 21, 1931, in Ashland, PA, she was preceded in death by her father, Michael Demchak; mother, Mary (Feltovich) Demchak; brother, Michael J. Demchak; husband, Jesse A. Hornyak; and stillborn son, Michael Vincent Hornyak.
Marianne spent most of her life in central Pennsylvania, remaining independent until the age of 91, when she moved to Brookdale assisted living in Barberton. In May 2025, she was moved to Wadsworth Pointe skilled nursing under hospice care and remained there until her death. She was known for her strong-mindedness and loved for her sense of humor.
A 1949 graduate of Adams Twp. (now Forest Hills) High School, Marianne earned a B.S. in Education from Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana University of Pennsylvania) . She then attended Susquehanna and Penn State Universities (PA) and received certification in Elementary Education. Following a teaching career cut short by medical issues, Marianne devoted her life to family and community. She volunteered for numerous organizations, founding several and serving as an officer or committee chair in others. An active member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County for more than 60 years, she was also an advocate of literacy, diversity, and the arts.
Marianne is survived by daughters Karen Hornyak of Doylestown (formerly of Barberton), and Elaine Hocker (Anthony Lamantia) of Toms River, NJ; grandson Harry Hocker (Chris Lovett) of Mechanicsburg, PA; and many dear nieces and nephews. She has also left behind several generations of cousins and extended family, whom she greatly loved and kept in touch with until her health made it impossible to do so.
Cremation has taken place, and there will be no funeral services. Arrangements have been kindly and competently handled by Zak-Thacker-Monbarren Funeral Home, Doylestown, OH.
