2025 BARBERTON SPORTS HALL OF FAME – Scott Sabol

The 2025 Barberton Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be Nov. 26 at Al’s banquet facility. This year’s class includes Mike Bodnar, Brittany Mingo, Scott Sabol, Mike Palija, Charlie Ries (O.C. Barber) and Barberton Tree (President’s Award).
A 2013 Barberton graduate, Scott Sabol was an outstanding basketball and soccer player for the Magics. A four-year letterman in both sports, Sabol is the all-time Magic leader in career three pointers with 221 and most three pointers in a season with 100.
He is third on the Magic list of career games played and 21st on the all-time scoring list. Sabol was Honorable Mention All-Suburban his freshman year, team captain his senior year, and Special Mention Northeast Inland All-District in both his junior and senior years. He was also honored by the Akron Beacon Journal and Cleveland Plain Dealer by being their Player of the Week during the 2012-13 season.
Magic Hall of Fame Coach/ Player Ken Rector describes Sabol this way: “Scott is probably the best three-point shooter we have ever had. He has our career record for three pointers, and he is just a good kid and athlete.”
On the soccer field, Sabol started every game during his career for the Magics, a 72-game streak. During his career the Magics were 46-20-6. The team captain his junior and senior year, Sabol recorded 21 goals and 20 assists in his career. Honors he received were BHS “Rookie of the Year,” first team All-Independent team, Magic City Challenge MVP, Greater Akron All-Star team, 2nd team All-District, Team MVP, and WAKR
On top of all that Sabol was named to the Suburban League All-Academic team (in both basketball and soccer) four consecutive years, and Academic All-Ohio.
Sabol attended Dennison College before transferring and graduating from Kent State University. During his time at Kent State, he served internships with Ohio House of Representative Greta Johnson and United State Senator Tim Ryan.
After graduation he worked for the U.S. Social Security Administration in California, before returning home and working for Stanley Steamer, his current job.
Sabol was nominated for the Barberton Sports Hall of Fame by Rob Culbertson.
