Have mercy! Magical Theatre Co. brings funny ‘Mercy Watson’ adaptation to stage

BARBERTON Magical Theatre Company, Northeast Ohio’s professional resident and touring theatre for young audiences and families, closes the season May 2-10 with “Mercy Watson to the Rescue,” a funny adaptation of the popular children’s book by Newberry Medal-winning author Kate DiCamillo.
Buttered toast! Mercy Watson isn’t just a pig – she’s a porcine wonder who loves buttered toast. And she adores that buttery toast feeling she gets when snuggling in bed with her owners. But when the bed begins to crack and the new neighbor
gives Mercy a hard time…Yikes!
Director Dennis O’Connell says this is one of the funniest shows for kids he’s directed, according to a news release.
“It’s a really humorous script and the cast is nailing it,” O’Connell said. “All the elements are coming together: costumes, lights, sound, etc. It’s really going to be a laugh riot for the whole family. We’ve had over 60 pieces of toast specially made for this show. Plus, who doesn’t love buttered toast?”
The talented and versatile cast includes Kate Clay of Brooklyn, New York who has come in to play Mercy, as well Noah Casino of Akron, Adam Hoffman of Cuyahoga Falls, Amanda Kidd of Kent, Deb Lemire of Cuyahoga Falls, Lauren McBride of
Chagrin Falls, Zoe McConaha of Bolivar, Gabe Reed of Barberton, and Mark Ross of Akron.
The creative team includes Ben Needham (scenic designer), Adam Ditzel (lighting designer), Inda Blatch-Geib (costume designer), Jeremiah Isley (sound designer), Connor Stout (Technical Director), and Dred & Enni Geib (specialty props).
