Beverly Faith (Snyder) Smith, 86

Beverly Faith (Snyder) Smith, age 86, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026 in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her children by her side. She believed deeply in the spirit world and the promise of an afterlife, she was at peace with her life in the years preceding her death. She expressed gratitude every day for her children, and the long and extraordinary life she lived. Her middle name, Faith truly did embody her ethos of life.

Beverly was born on April 19, 1939, in Barberton, Ohio, to the late Raymond Leroy Snyder (1906-1980) and Sarah Spina Snyder (1913-1960). She graduated from Barberton High School and attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She made Charlotte her home for 50 years.

From a young age, she dreamed of becoming a professional dancer and even auditioned for the famed New York City, Radio City Rockettes. She danced on her college dance team and carried her love of dance throughout her life, only stopping in her 70s after a knee replacement. She also enjoyed playing tennis and bowling for fitness and fun.

In the 1960’s, as a mother of three young children, she became passionate about healthy living. She explored nutrition, juicing, and introduced vegetarianism to her family long before it became mainstream and popular. She also developed a deep interest in astrology, becoming highly skilled at creating complex charts for family and friends who delighted in the conversations they had with her about their astrological profile.

Beverly selflessly devoted over 20 years of her life as a full-time stay-at-home mother, so when her children were raised and living on their own, at age 39 she embraced a newfound independence that would shape the rest of her life. Following divorce in 1980, she built a life defined by resilience and self-reliance as a working woman. She owned her own business, taught K–12 students, worked for a prestigious interior design firm, Charlotte Nature Museum and as a valued member of the research team at Marketwise, Inc. where she worked until her retirement in 2010. She was also a breast cancer survivor—a further testament to her strength and determination.

In later years, she found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved dining out and sharing drinks with her family. She enjoyed cinema of all kinds—especially dramas, British crime fiction, true crime, rom coms and stand up comedy. She had a very special love for Broadway musicals, particularly The Phantom of the Opera. In 2018, she traveled to New York City with her daughter to see the performance at the Majestic Theatre. She especially admired the actor and singer John Owen-Jones who starred in the play, often speaking of him with a twinkle in her eye.

Beverly will be remembered for the deep love she had for her family and her cats, her independent spirit, and her curiosity about life and the beyond.

Beverly is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Getz-Simien (Terrance Simien) of Lafayette, Louisiana; her son, Casey Getz (Angela Rucker) of Charleston, South Carolina; and her beloved grandchildren, Brandon Getz, of Seattle, Washington and Marcella Simien-Reynolds, Memphis, Tennessee, her (sister-like) cousin, Patricia Miller of Barberton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Raymond Snyder II; her daughter, Christina Marie Getz (2013); and many beloved extended family members and friends.
