Mayor’s conduct as boss triggered removal efforts

BARBERTON Alleged conduct supervising employees is the basis for Barberton City Council’s efforts to remove Mayor William Judge, President Shorter Griffin announced at the end of the April 20 committee work session.
Council initiated the proceedings with a resolution April 13, revealing no motive. Since then, rumors and speculation have been rampant, Griffin said the 20th.
“Unfortunately, we cannot provide the transparency the people want,” Griffin said.
He said that no one incident prompted the move, but rather a pattern of behavior in his supervisory role.
“When the allegations came to us, we launched an independent investigation that produced a 24-page report,” Griffin said.
That report is not yet public but it triggered the removal effort.
Former U.S. Attorney Marlin Primes, now in private practice, is preparing the charges, Griffin said. Once presented, they will be public and the mayor will have 15 days to
prepare a defense to present in a public hearing.
“I have no further comment at this time,” Griffin said.

The mayor has always done a stellar job for the businesses around this area. He has promoted all types of grants and has worked on his end to help the businesses in this area to receive them .
I have been a Barbertonian since the time Mayor Catherine Dobbs was elected and have seen many mayors come and go. Mayor Bill Judge was one of the finest. This is proven by the fact that thousands of voters kept Judge in office for fifteen years. I think it a shame that six councilpersons overturned the will of the voters without giving any serious reason for having done so. It is an insult to our intelligence and an affront to the democratic process. I wish Bill Judge well and say “thanks” for your good service!
